What is it?<\/h2>

It is a healing disorder<\/strong> which is caused from overgrowth of granulation tissue. Keloids are firm, reddish nodules and grow beyond the boundaries<\/strong> of the original scar. This is how they are differentiated from hypertrophic scars. They typically develop in certain sites, such as the central chest, the shoulders and the ear lobes (e.g. after piercing). There is also a genetic component for their formation.<\/p>\n

The procedure<\/h3>

Keloids are typically treated conservatively with triamcinolone injections. Any surgical attempt to excise them carry a significant risk of recurrence. When surgery is performed, it should intralesional excision followed by application of pressure sheets and corticosteroid injections.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” el_class=”paddingonlybottom”][vc_column_inner]
