What is it?<\/h2>

Hypoplasia of the external ear is called microtia<\/strong>, whereas its aplasia is called anotia<\/strong>. Inner ear is typically normal in both conditions. Microtia may be sporadic or syndromic, in terms of Treacher-Collins syndrome. It is associated with retinoid consumption during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

The procedure<\/h3>

We reconstruct the external ear using rib cartilage. I prefer to use the technique of 2 stages as described by Francoise Firmin. Alloplastic material instead of rib cartilage are contraindicated because of the high incidence of infection and extrusion.
